Abstract

The OMG's Model Driven Architecture (MDA) defines an approach to IT system specification that separates the specification of system functionality from the specification of the implementation of that functionality on a specific technology platform. The MDA makes a strong case for model-based generators that will accept a platform-specific model of a system and generate code artifacts from it. In case the systems implemented using this approach share common properties but differ in a selected set of structural and functional features, the question of dealing with variability within such a system product line emerges. This position papers introduces the notion of generic transformation in the context of MDA as a solution to this problem.
